Returns & lost receipts
Can I return to Target without a receipt?
By the Mylo team · Last updated July 1, 2026
Short answer
Usually yes. Target can look up purchases made with a card, a Target Circle account, or a RedCard, and for items without any proof of purchase they may offer a limited refund or exchange after an ID check. Rules vary and change, so confirm Target's current policy.
If you paid with a credit or debit card, a Target RedCard, or were signed in to Target Circle, the store can often find the receipt for you. Target also emails and stores receipts for Circle members, which makes lookups easy.
Without any record of purchase, Target may still accept the return but often caps no-receipt returns to a limited dollar amount per year and issues merchandise return credit. You will usually need a valid ID, and some brands and categories follow their own timelines.
What to know
- Card, RedCard, or a signed-in Target Circle account all let staff look up the original purchase.
- True no-receipt returns are typically limited in value per year and paid back as store credit.
- Bring a government photo ID, since no-receipt returns are usually tied to your ID.
- As of 2026, this is general guidance: check Target's current returns policy for the specifics.
Never get stuck without a receipt
- Link purchases to Target Circle so your receipts are stored and searchable.
- Search your inbox for the Target order or store receipt before assuming it is gone.
- With Mylo, you already have it: Mylo pulls receipts from your email, connected accounts (including Target), your camera roll, and card matches, so the original is always a tap away.
- Return sooner rather than later to stay inside the item's window.
